I've been on the look out for a good, long-lasting lipstick for a while.
Talking, teaching classes, taking clients, and just in general eating, drinking - wondering if my lipstick is coming off and starting to make a ring around my lips (doing the opposite affect of what I want it to be doing) is always in the back of my mind. But not anymore.
While working on this website... I've also been in the background testing all the different makeup brands out there for truly long-lasting - looking good, feeling good, lipstick.
- Department store
- Discount store
- You name it
And I'm telling you, this is the one.
Revlon's ColorStay Collection is doing what it says it's doing - it's color is staying on, looking dewy, and not coming off without an oil based makeup remover (you can go natural like coconut oil).
So, if you're not already familiar with the line, let me catch you up.
The Revlon ColorStay Collection comes in three formulations:
- A Suede-like balm called Ultimate Suede
- A Liquid Lip called Ultimate Liquid
- A Paint + Gloss Topcoat called Overtime
I rate them on a scale from 1 to 3.
Gentle to serious, with the balm being most gentle, and the paint being most serious. Though all are good depending on what kind of texture you like on your lips and what type of purpose you're using it for, I specifically love their ColorStay Overtime. It's not coming off and it comes in 26 very flattering shades for all skin tones.
Here's a few pics of one of my favorite shades of it, Endless Spice, on a few different skin tones:
Basically, whenever I don't want to have to worry about what my lips are doing which is most of the time - ColorStay Overtime is what I wear. I have it in more than one color and I plan to stock up on a few more.
Whenever I have to teach longer classes, be talking for a while without chance of touch-up, like at a conference or party, or out at an event - I use this. Basically, whenever I want to not worry if my lipstick is somehow smeared all over my face, or coming off in the middle only leaving a rim on the outside, or balling up into little dry beads - this is it.
I believe the secret to its success is the two-step application process, the color + the top coat.
I mean we do this for nails, so why not for lips? Right?
I eat meals with it. I drink water with it. I sustain rainstorms... with it. Just let the base coat dry first and get a little tacky, then apply the top coat.
And at about $9-10 USD at the local drugstore, it's a real win-win all around.
Important tip: if you're leaving the house with it on, try to keep the gloss that comes with it (or any gloss) on you. This way throughout the day you can replenish and lock the moisture back into your color and onto your lips, making the color both last longer and keeping your lips smooth.
This isn't a paid advertisement. I'm just trying to save us all some time. I've discerned and field tested a ton of products and - this one is the best of all I've found yet. Get it at CVS. Wear it to a conference! On a date! A pool party! It works for everything. Really.
