A vortex is any place, person, or thing that is acting as an energy draw towards its center.

You can define a Vortex (plural vortices) as

1. a mass of spinning air, liquid, etc. that pulls things into its center

2. a place or situation regarded as drawing into its center all that surrounds it

According to Vortex Hunters, the largest website cataloging and recording vortices around the world, a vortex is also defined as any concentrated area of energy that promotes wellbeing.

Natural vortices can be found all over the world, and they tend to draw people, animals, and idea-makers from all walks of life into them and their surroundings.

In the United States, the two most famous vortex locations are the vortices in and around Sedona, Arizona, and those in Mount Shasta

In my area, the two most popular vortices are in Gettysburg and Ringing Rocks, both locations with lots of exposed geology.

Outside of these hotspots, there are approximately 60 known vortices in and around the United States. And those are just the reported vortices, where several people experience the same phenomenon in the same area.

But vortices can exist everywhere, so if you are looking for information on how to find a vortex outside of the known ones, read on and let's get started.

How Vortices Are Formed

Vortices can be human-made, such as city-hubs or earth-made, such as through geological structures or water movement.

The two typically go hand-in-hand, because they're generally thought to be created from a rapid ion-exchange due to any type of phenomena.

Though when you think of vortices, you usually think of vortices being found in natural locations, humans can generate and create them, too.

Vortices can be formed from a concentration of energy created by human-made energy clusters, or through energy clusters created by other Earth beings and forces.

Vortices are generally located

  • Near any significant energy flow or attractant

  • Around areas with exposed geology, exposed or rapid water flows

  • Vast forests, and any place where you have a quick exchange of electrical activity

  • In centers or hubs with lots of moving people

Sedona Red Rock Tours also finds there are three different types of vortices on the globe:

  • Electrical Vortices - these carry yang-energy or masculine energy and can be energizing, often the city spots.

  • Magnetic Vortices - these carry yin-energy or feminine energy and can be relaxing, often natural spots.

  • Balancing Vortices - these carry a mix of energy and can be harmonizing, often tourist spots or cities

Deborah King also believes that some of the more prominent vortices on earth are chakra centers for the planet.

Going to individual known earth chakra vortices will help with your work in balancing that particular chakra on your own body.

In addition to these earth vortexes, I believe there are also paranormal vortices, which are commonly known as portals, and they come from the sky element above.

I talk about these in other posts on portals.

In this post, we're primarily talking about how to find a vortex on land, which can be an adventure, and it can happen in your neighborhood or backyard.

Regardless of what each vortex is meant to do, they are all connected and respond to each other.

Before we get started on finding them, let’s start by talking about how they are connected to each other.

All vortices are connected to a grid and why this matters

Each vortex is then further connected to other vortices through a series of leylines. Think about vortexes as chakras of the planet, and they are connected through an energy network that is active and responsive.

Just like how all other chakras are connected via weaker loose fields and respond to each other, so do vortices.

Living near a large vortex may mean you get incredible energy flows and cleansing, and it also amplifies your energy.

According to Live Science, the way that a vortex connects to a leyline can best be equated to the way a star works with the constellations.

In this analogy, ley lines are a series of constellation-like lines that connect major stars to the other stars on the globe in patterned, organized shapes.

Through this energetic connection, when an event happens at the center of one vortex, it can be communicated energetically to the rest of the earth through the network of ley lines.

Meaning something that happens at one vortex can possibly be felt at the opening of another, even many miles apart.

When this happens, people on opposite sides of the world, feel or sense the same energy. They may create mirror projections, or creations, even if they've never met.

Not all vortices are created equally, as different energy centers draw in various types of energy, and each of these vortices attracts and emanates a different type of energy.

For this reason, some energy workers spend their time harmonizing, charging, and clearing different vortices. Or visiting different vortexes to gain different insights.

Now that we’ve discussed how they’re connected, it’s time to locate them.

Use a technical tool

A tool I like is Vortex Hunters. Vortex Hunters compiles vortex tips and catalogs those places that have received several in one area.

New vortices are being added all the time.

You can use this tool to find pre-existing known vortices, but also know new ones are forming all the time, so just because it's not been cataloged doesn't mean you don't have a vortex.

Most people use clairsentience, or their feeling abilities and how they respond to an area of land to identify vortices, so here's how you do it:

Energetically spot a vortex

Find an area in your backyard, neighborhood, or community that feels the most energetically fresh and even refreshing to you. It could be a spot with a rock outcropping, where you can hear freshwater, or outside your favorite shop.

Where in your town, yard, neighborhood, or state, does it feel like energy just flows?

You may have a vortex in these spots.

Signs you visited a vortex

  • You feel refreshed after you go there

  • You feel inspired for 2-3 days after visiting

  • You feel like you can take a breath of deep fresh air

  • You feel like you again

  • People seem happy or positive for no known reason

  • Things seem relaxed, or there is a calm air to the place

If you notice three or more of the above, you may have found a positive energy spot, known as a vortex or energy flow.

How to know which vortex type you’ve found

When you're there, contemplate the energy you feel and the psychic information that comes to you. As what you get, may relate to what this vortex is meant to help within its planetary existence.

Each vortex is thought to have something to teach, even if the teaching is to remind us to slow, pause, and feel-good energy from time-to-time - that's still excellent teaching.

If you have a yard, you can walk around your outdoor space and see where you sense a spot like this. If you can freely move about your town, think about where this is.

Travel or state or area a bit and take notice of where these refreshing, calming areas are. These could be vortices or natural energy flows.

What To Do If You Find a Vortex

Enjoy your experience.

If you find an unlisted vortex and want to submit a vortex site claim, you can do so at VortexHunters.com.

They also need as much evidence as they can get to back up the claim to verify it, so be liberal if possible.

They can only post vortices in public spots, so if you have one on your private land, it may not be listed.

Work with Vortex Energy

Going to vortices can amplify your spiritual awareness, balance your chakras, assist you in accessing your highest vibration, and help you better connect to spiritual and soul realms

Think of going to an energy vortex like visiting a clearing energy bath.

After visiting a vortex, try to keep yourself in the vortex state of being for as long as possible.

In other words, try not to be too quick to block your chakras again and stay in bliss for as long as you can.

This will help you spiritually get the most out of your visit to a vortex.

Because many vortices are outdoor experiences, remember to hydrate and eat well to help your body process the energy you take in.

When you are selecting which vortex to visit next, remember that there are both marked and unmarked vortices in every state.

And because vortices are spinning whirlwinds of energy, this can mean that the energy, the people, and the circumstances at vortices can be a little unbalanced at times.

So be aware when you visit an energy center that it can bring out different energy centers in those around you and even those you travel with.

Keep in mind that different energies bring out something new in everyone; you learn more about those you travel with when you have spiritual experiences with them.

If going vortex-hunting with a friend, know everyone has a different interpretation or feeling from a vortex, that's okay. They all tend to refresh people in different ways.

How you can expect to feel after visiting a vortex

There is no right or wrong way to feel after visiting a vortex. However, a lot of people describe they feel tingly or just happy. Often people note that they feel refreshed or energized.

To recap, when finding a vortex

  • A vortex is any spot of spiraling inward energy.

  • They can be found anywhere in the country, but are mainly concentrated near-natural phenomena.

  • Vortices are connected to one another through leylines.

  • You can find a vortex through directories or through your own searching

  • You can work with the energy at vortices to balance your energy, your body, and your spirit.

Documenting your experience at a vortex will help normalize our human experience with energy and classify the location for others, so if you visit one, share.
