4 Steps For Identifying Spirits

Updated 2020.12.18

Most of those you will meet on The Other Side fall into these categories:

  • Spirit Guides

  • Angels

  • Deceased Loved Ones

It is the Angels, the Spirit Guides, and the Deceased Loved Ones who have crossed over and are living in the Divine Light that is sometimes called Heaven, whom mediums seek to connect their clients with.

Determining where the message is coming from, is just as important as what the message is.

Discernment is important in The Spirit World.

Learning who you are speaking with will:

  • Help you stay safe

  • Help you start to build relationships with those in Spirit you do want to communicate with

  • Help you end relationships with those whom you don’t want to communicate with

Just like in the human world, your time, your energy, and your attention are precious resources.

You want to spend them wisely with those worth connecting with - and you can only assure that you are communicating with those who you want to be communicating with, but identifying who they are.

For a quick overview on how to discern who is who in The Spirit World, read on below.

How can you tell who you are communicating with?

Step 1. Identify how spirit feels to you

Most people can further narrow it down by sensing the presence of Spirit. You may feel cold, hot, sense a breeze, a touch, or a shift in energy in some way. These differences are meaningful.

After that, individual Spirits have individual feelings that they give people to mark their presence - these are called calling cards.

A calling card can be best described as a signature phrase, saying, or action that someone always does - and you know it’s them for sure.

Step 2. Set an intention

This is sometimes called saying a prayer or an invocation for Spirit.

Do you plan to welcome in and communicate with Spirit? Want to open up a channel, get out the dowsing rods and start asking questions?

Before you open up a portal, make sure you say an invocation for who is and who is not welcome to come through it into your space. It’s kind of like opening the doors of your house to have a party - is everyone in the city welcome, or just a select few who won’t disrespect the house?

You get to decide who walks through those doors. So, make sure you do. Learn how, set an intention here.

Step 3. Set boundaries

You can choose who you communicate with and when, in what places and where - these are called boundaries and most mediums have them - a set of rules determining who they will and will not communicate with, which, once defined and written out, the majority of Spirits will abide by.

It’s like having a set of rules for a clubhouse - most guests will listen to these rules, if they know what they are.

So, set your boundaries with Spirit, and define who you are willing to communicate with and who you are not willing to communicate with this blog on spiritual boundaries.

Step 4. Find a communication method that works for you

I prefer direct communication. You can also use Oracle Cards.

That is, using my intuitive senses of clairaudience, clairvoyance, and clairsentience to receive information from the Spirit present. We all have intuitive abilities, and once developed, we can all use these to communicate with, and have information transferred to us from Spirit.

To communicate with those in Spirit, I would suggest using a device where you can ask yes-no questions, such as dowsing rods, a pendulum, a white noise spirit radio, or a voice recorder.

This way, if you aren’t using your intuitive abilities, you are still able to receive definite answers as to who you are communicating with and what they have to say.

Identifying who you are communicating with in Spirit is just as important as identifying who you are communicating with in the human world. You can keep yourself safe and free of harm, develop beneficial relationships, identify the good guys and have the ability to walk away from all else.
