Identifying Your Spirit Guide: A Simple 5-Step Process

Each of your Spirit Guides, Guardian Angels and Loved Ones has a unique presence indicator called a 'calling card' that is only used by them and once you identify it, then you have a shorthand method of knowing when your Spirit Guide is communicating with you and when it's something else.

When you identify the calling card, rather than knowing that just a Spirit is with you, you can know for sure whether it is your Guardian Angel Samantha versus your Protector Guide Tom, just by detecting slight nuances in their behavior.

To identify your Spirit Guide’s presence, apart from the other Spirit presences, you want to identify your Spirit Guide’s calling card.

Below is a short-hand, 5-step method for figuring out which Spirit Guide is communicating with you and when -

Step 1. Ask your Spirit Guide to step into your energy field

When your mind is quiet, the space around you is still, and there is nothing else around to grab your focus or attention, relax and ask a Spirit Guide to step into your energetic space. Breathe in and out, and welcome them in.

Step 2. Notice how they make themselves known 

Close your eyes and take three deep breaths.

Here, ask your Spirit Guide to step in closer to your energy field.

See what you sense. See what changes you feel in the room or within your body. See what colors, shapes or images you see in your mind's eye.

The change that you notice when your Guide steps forward is the calling card. 

Step 3. Double-check to make sure you really have it

Once your Spirit Guide is out of your energy space, take a re-inventory of how you feel without them there. 

Are your hands still tingling? Is there pressure still on your chest? What has changed?

Once you've made a mental note of the changes, then, ask them to once again step back into your space. See what you notice again.

What do you see in your mind's eye?

What does your body feel like now?

Try asking a question, such as, What is your name?

From here ask your Spirit Guide to step in and out of your space at least one more time. 

Back and forth, ask your Guide to step in towards you and away from you, so you can get a good idea for the contrast of how you will feel with them there and then, how you feel when they are not there. This will help you really pinpoint what it is that you sense when they are in your presence.

This thing you sense that's different when they're close - that's their calling card. 

Step 4. Practice, practice, practice with the same guide

Try this exercise several times, while asking the same Spirit to step forward, until you have identified their calling card. This is the signature feeling, word, image or sensation that you get when your Spirit Guide is present. All individuals in Spirit have one. If it's a Guide, it will be replicable. 

Step 5. Finally experiment with other Spirit Guides

After you have met and learned the sensation or calling card of one Spirit Guide, attempt this experiment by asking a Guardian Angel to step forward, then a Joy Guide, then an Animal Guide and finally a Deceased Loved One.

Record, inventory and write down all changes and experiences, then compare the differences.

What did it feel like when Spirit Guide #1 was present, compared to when Guardian Angel #2 was different, compared to when an Animal Guide was present?

See if you can begin to notice the subtle changes between each - over time and with practice, you will. 

Do this same process whenever you’re identifying new, long-term Guides - any spirit that is hanging around for more than a week or so.

Ask them to step forward close to you and hold it for three seconds, then ask them to step back five steps, holding that for three seconds, and then repeating that process twice more to really discern the delicate nuances in how you feel with and without them close to you.

This helps identify who is around you more efficiently as it helps to familiarize yourself with the sensation each Guide gives so that you can more easily call them out when needed, and figure out what guidance is coming forward, when.

All of the above can be helpful when doing snap readings, when trying to figure out what energy is coming forward to support you in an emergency, or when trying to determine what your guides are trying to say - as with different guides, you’ll receive differently worded messages.
