When I was a little girl, I had the luxury of having a friend in my Girl Scouts troop who lived in an old farmhouse filled with wonders and mysteries.
One of these wonders was an old doll she had, that, when home alone, we'd set by itself, then go off to have a snack.
Somehow, we'd always come back to that doll being in another position or another room entirely.
It created so much curiosity in me, this may be why I do this today.
Dolls can carry energy, as can objects.
Objects are matter, and matter is energy, and spirits are energy, and spirits can 'bond' with items just like we can and do.
At flea markets, and in estate sales, it is all too easy to pick up on the reads of other nearby variables (other people or things attached to other objects) when things are that close together, especially for highly attuned sensitives.
Physically touching the item or hovering your hand over it will produce the most transparent read.
If a vintage piece is presented to you in an isolated and singular way, it is possible to determine if it has an attachment by looking at it or by stepping in and out of its energy field.
However, this technique doesn't work in all circumstances, and it is much harder to do in crowded shopping areas effectively.

How to tell if something is haunted

Technically when something is haunted, in professional terms, this is called having an attachment.
You can usually sense an attachment with clairsentience, which is sensory energy that flows through the heart out to palm chakras.
Step 1
Grab two objects, one you want to purchase and one that's maybe newer, or fresh off the shelf, no residual energy.
Yes, a 'control' and a 'variable' test, side-by-side.
Two comparison pieces that don't have to be the same object - like haunted Ouija Board to presumably not haunted Ouija Board - but they do have to be of similar consistency.
So if it's a wooden board, you want to touch a wooden lamp table nearby, one at a time.
Step 2
Close your eyes, touch with your hand the 'haunted' piece in question, then immediately move your hand to hover over or touch something else, not haunted.
Open your hand and scan your open palm in front of the space of the objects you want to buy.
Take a deep breath and do it again, and again - usually three times is good enough to get a sense of what if anything is carrying something.
See what you feel as feedback coming back to you from the piece.
A feeling from one or the other, start to see flashes of visions, or hear voices when touching one - then you know a piece has an attachment.
Another way to tell is if you start having vivid visions and dreams right after acquiring a new piece.
Step 3
If you pick up something, you can usually clear it or verify it through historical records, either written records or community records.
Most people also want to clear the energy too.

Validate your receptions with the buyer or historical records

Some people also may choose to keep the energy there, especially if it is an heirloom piece, as it's part of the story. Most people make that decision once they scan the energy and know for sure what or whom they have with the piece.
