When I meet with clients for spiritual consultations, my job is occasionally to assist folks in returning to an inner sense of spiritual balance so they can hear their inner voice.

With all the messages coming in from seemingly every direction, anyone can get tangled up in listening to all the outside shoulds and shouldn’ts of the world to the point they no longer hear their soul’s voice.

When you stop hearing your soul’s voice, in my experience working with others in spiritual advising, this creates a sense of imbalance and confusion, which can lead to feelings often opposite to those of relaxation.

So sometimes the first step I take in my work with others is to assist people in relaxing. When you are relaxed it is easy to hear your soul’s voice because you feel safe and at ease.

Being in a relaxed state of mind is important in hearing the soul and also in hearing the voice of Spirit, whatever that is to you.

When you are relaxed and at ease, your soul feels safe in its body and therefore, at home and able to express itself freely to you and to anyone around you.

When you are relaxed and at ease, it is also much easier for the voice of Spirit to get through too - because when you sense the presence of Spirit, you just allow what you are experiencing to be okay and accept it, welcoming it in.

Being relaxed is key when doing spiritual consultations as it helps me hear what a client is really saying and it helps the client hear what I am really saying, with neither of us feeling anything but safe and trusting with each other.

This is why getting to the relaxed, at ease and open point is often the first step in my work of being a spiritual advisor, psychic medium or intuitive coach, whatever you want to call what I do.

Additionally, I am asked as an empath myself, how do I get to a point where I can focus and relax on my own work and business with “all that is happening.”

So below I want to share with you three easy relaxation techniques that work for me and I share with others without hesitation.

Each of these techniques can be done in less than five minutes and may promote a sense of ease and relaxation.

1 - Four part breath

Sit or stand in a comfortable relaxed position with your hands resting palm-up alongside you. Close your eyes. Breathe in while counting to four in your mind. Now exhale while counting to four in your mind.

Repeat this inhalation-exhalation cycle four times.

Open your eyes, shake out your arms and shoulders, resume your life.

2 - Soaring above visualization

Find a comfortable, safe place to sit and close your eyes.

Take three inhalations and exhalations.

Imagine your soul walking outside of your body on an empty platform alongside a friendly, talkative blue Dragon who is your Spirit Guide.

Climb on top of your Dragon Spirit Guide’s back. Imagine your Dragon Spirit Guide now taking flight and circling above your current life.

Now imagine yourself and your Dragon Guide hovering above your circumstances.

Ask your Dragon Guide to give you one idea to bring the current circumstances into balance.

Listen to what you hear or see in your mind, and sense in your body. Once you sense a response, see your Dragon Guide fly you down back to the platform and imagine your soul walking back into your body.

Open your eyes, write down what you received as an answer.

3 - Hand-tenting essential oils

Take your favorite* essential oil and place three to four drops of the oil in the palm of your hand.

Roll the oil around in the palm of your hand for a few seconds, and then rub both palms of your hands together.

Bring your hands together over your nose, gently tenting your palms over the tip of your nose, with the tips of your fingers coming together at the bridge of your nose.

Close your eyes and now take 7-10 deep breaths.

Open your eyes. Release your hands from the tent position and rub any remaining oil on your earlobes, the back of your neck or chest.

*If one more drop drips out than planned, it’s alright, just let it be. If your favorite oil is almost empty, simply try a new one.

Alright, so give one of these methods a try.

Sometimes after trying one of these methods, I will bring my hand to my heart and ask myself (my soul), what is the next most important thing for me to do?

This allows me an opportunity to reorient my focus to listening to myself first, then listening to all the other voices second, which retrains the self to prioritize you above everything.

One of the reasons I put the focus on the self first, over other’s needs, after a relaxation meditation is because I have learned how important it is to do this from giving many readings to others from Spirit over the years.

Through delivering messages to others from the Spirit World, however you want to define it, I have learned people want and deserve to be happy and Spirit wants people to be happy and they actively guide those they watch over to that happiness.

One of the reasons why people are unhappy, according to the Spirit World and people’s loved ones in Spirit, is that they don’t prioritize their own happiness and needs first. They don’t spend time on finding out what brings them joy. They don’t identify their favorite foods. They don’t decide what type of shoes and shirts they like best. They spend all their time helping others do that.

They prioritize making others happy and content, which is valiant and noble, yet as we know, it is sometimes impossible.

For years, many of my readings were simply people’s deceased loved ones and Angels coming through teaching people how to focus on themselves, put themselves first and find their happiness.

Putting yourself first does not mean you only care about yourself now and everyone else you love can fend for themselves - all it means is you make yourself part of the equation.

These relaxation exercises are mini-opportunities for you to connect with your own soul and Spirit, so by ending it with asking, what is the next important thing for me to do? it gives you a restart with what really matters - and that's you and your happiness.

When you do that, feelings of ease often continue beyond the five minutes we shared above.
