Snake Dream Symbolism: 6 Reasons You're Dreaming of Snakes

I have a painting in my house of the Greek Ouroboros symbol of a Snake eating its tail, which symbolizes infinity and rebirth.

To me, snakes represent “all is one.”

When you see snakes symbolically, it’s a great time to remind yourself that what you see in others is also within you. If you admire a quality someone else has, take a moment to acknowledge those qualities in yourself.

Snakes are also a great reminder of the ability we all have for rebirth: we can make ourselves new by creating new relationships, careers, personas and places at any time.

When you dream about snakes, it can be a sign you’re undergoing a transformation process and serve as a reminder of the oneness in everything.

To dive deeper, below are 6 reasons you’re dreaming of snakes:

1 - Be alert

Snakes generally sleep with their eyes open. Seeing them in your dreams could be a reminder to remain alert and aware.

Bring your “A-game” to every moment and start sweating “the small stuff,” as every detail matters right now.

2 - Shed the old

Snakes shed their skin, to allow for growth and to remove parasites that could do harm to the snake.

When seeing a snake in dreams or visions, it may be a nudge that it’s the perfect time to shed old patterns, behaviors and situations so that you can welcome in the new.

3 - Protect yourself from a toxic situation

Snakes are normally not overly aggressive. They usually hide or wait for me to step around them when I come across them. However, some snake bites are venomous and can be extremely toxic to the body’s tissues.

If a snake is biting you in a dream, it may be a message about a toxic person or situation who is biting you or will bite you. You likely already know who or what this dream is referring to, so prepare and take protective action.

4 - Connect to Primal Earth Energy

Snakes evolved 142 million years ago. They are solar-powered, and essential to the ecosystems in which they live as they help balance predator/prey ratios.

When you see a snake in a dream, it may symbolize you could benefit from connecting to Earth’s primal energy by stepping outside for a breath of fresh air or going for a nature walk.

5 - Conserve resources while you wait for your ship to come in

Snakes can survive for months without food as they can lower their resting metabolism waiting for a meal. This helps them avoid digesting their nutrient stores needed to live.

Seeing a snake in your dreams can be a sign to be patient while you wait for your ship to come in. In the meantime, conserve your resources and use your energy more sustainably.

6 - Awakening healing powers and spiritual gifts

In the spiritual community, snakes are often seen as medicine animals, and they are totem spirit animal guides for healers. They can also represent awakening Kundalini or life force energy.

If you see a snake, it can indicate your healing and/or spiritual abilities are awakening.

All in all, snakes can be powerful spirit allies to have by your side. Their presence can symbolize a time to be alert, shed the old, embrace awakening and connect to Earth’s energy.
