How To Let Go

The process of letting go, also known as surrender, is one of the most discussed metaphysical acts. It is releasing the need to understand or figure out the past or control the future.

It is the act of being in the now and being okay with where things are right now. Some would say it is surrendering to our Dharma or life path. Others would call it going with the flow.

The easiest way to start the act of letting go is by writing down a Most Important 100, or all the dreams you would have fulfilled in life. If you have more than 100, write down as many as you have. Then, keep this list in your notes as almost a navigational map.

Some people like to have a monthly or weekly planner, where they write down their most significant needs to keep life going.

Once a game plan is set aside, then letting go is sitting back and trusting the plan of what your instincts say you need to do to keep going in life.

The act of letting go is also like a theorem that implies you trust your intuition and your past self’s knowledge because it requires that you trust yourself. It also means you trust others.

So the second act of letting go is accepting you trust yourself and those around you at this moment.

After that, I’ve listed 5 ways to let go and surrender to the now -

5 Ways To Surrender To The Moment

1 - Take it minute-by-minute

Once you have your most important 100, monthly or weekly goals written, take life by moments and try trusting in the grand plan of things.

Instead of focusing on the next week or next year, or what could happen in five years, some days it helps to simply take it hour-by-hour or even minute-by-minute and fully be in the now.

2 - Stop negative inside talk

You were doing your best given what you knew then, and you will continue to give your best in the future. Case closed.

Over analyzing your actions from the past can be a method of not honoring the past self and not accepting how this part of you was doing your best then. In essence, it is a form of self-hate, a way to send low vibrational energy to yourself.

Once you have learned from the past, it’s time to move on. Commit to breaking up with negative self talk from now forward in order to give yourself the love you deserve.

Now that you know about this, choose to send loving thoughts to yourself instead. You are worth it. Even if you absorb negative judgments from others, now you can choose to not wear those statements as cloaks anymore.

Try these Positive Affirmations to start a new dialogue.

3 - Think the best of yourself

Be realistic with yourself and think of the best in yourself, even if the old part of your mind tries to tell you otherwise.

There can be a learning curve with thinking the best of yourself. But eventually, learning to think the best of yourself does become easier. You can find your way back to it more quickly if you stray away from loving yourself.

You and others are pretty much doing the best they can every day.

Consider everyone, including you, is doing their best, while for the most part working on finding happiness or joy through one of these things each day.

If you are often forgiving of others and can see them as innocent, let yourself go a bit, too, with your thoughts.

Try saying these things to yourself: I did my best yesterday and in all past moments with the information I knew to be true then. I am doing my best in this moment now. I am a good person who strives to do the right thing.

4 - If you have relaxation tools, use them

Have you purchased or acquired any self-care items? Know a self-care stretch?

One of the best ways to let go is simply breathing, taking a break, and doing one of the things that brings you joy or comfort if you have it. For ideas, I wrote about some of my favorite tools for relaxation in this post on feeling overwhelmed for empaths last year.

Relaxation tools can be non-monetary and non-physical, too. Simply remembering something that allowed you to relax in the past or recalling a favorite memory, allows the soul to ease up a bit. You can start relaxing right now by taking three deep breaths.

Relaxing the Spirit can help you release the grip on the past and future, allowing you to just let go and be, for a moment or more.

5 - Focus on your most important three

You probably already have an idea of three things you need to do to make the best work or personal day or know the goals you were focusing on since the start of the year.

Some people list their most important three out per week, some per day, and some per year.

The most important three are ideas of what will bring you happiness, love, or fulfillment on the next leg of your journey. This helps you get through every day, feeling you did your best and truly, lets the universe “do the rest.”

I like to break out the most essential three out by the day. I keep them in my notes and sometimes right on a sticky note at my desk.

Having an idea of your goals in small chunks can help you center in and ground where you are. This makes it easier to completely immerse yourself in the moment and let go of the past, the future, and what may be.

You may have already had some experience in the process of letting go. Letting go can be a great way to adapt to change. As you practice letting go, try using these techniques during any time in life, but know they can be especially helpful in times of change or transition.

I also think just letting go, and trusting can also just make for a fun day.
